Day 1 of Internship.

Woohoo! Today was my 1st day of internship at IPTO.

Supposed to report at 8.30am but excited me, reached the office at 8am. Haha. I'm never an early person. So this goes to show how important this internship is to me.

I hope to score well for it.

Well, waited in the meeting room for the Senior Manager (Miss Yeo) to arrive. Was supposed to report to her. Waited and waited and then this other girl came along. She's Cindy from Accountancy and Finance. Chatted and exchanged our numbers. She's quite a chatty and outgoing person.

Miss Yeo arrived and gave us our files with all the forms to be filled up and everything and gave a short briefing on what to do. After she left, 2 other girls arrived. Laura from Accountancy and Finance, and Sugi from Financial Services.

So for the next 1 hour or so, all we did was to fill up all the forms (e.g. declaration of shares form, declaration of bankruptcy form). At the end of the file there's this piece of paper whereby they conducted a search in their database on whether or not we have been declared bankrupted before. Kind of serious huh.

Anyway, let me give a brief introduction of my work place. IPTO is under Ministry of Law and deals with individual insolvency (bankruptcy), corporate insolvency (liquidation), public trustee duty, wills registry, registry of pawnbrokers and registry of moneylenders. It is indeed VERY finance. No wonder I got posted there.

Anyway, I was posted to the finance department, together with Sugi. Laura was posted to the bankruptcy side and Cindy to the trustee's side.

So after filling up the tons of forms, we were given a tour of the whole office and introduced to all the managers of all the various departments. At the end of it, we were brought to our respective department to start our work.

My direct supervisor is Senior Officer, Desmond Ho. He's a very nice guy. And I do mean VERY nice. As the day went by, I realized he said lots of "sorry" and "thanks". Haha. So cute.

Mr Ho introduced us to everyone in the finance department and all of them are very friendly. Woo, I'm so blessed to have such friendly colleagues.

Anyway, the job scope of Sugi and I was to calculate the unclaimed surplus of all the pawnshops and to compile these figures. We're supposed to work backwards month by month and when I saw the files, I nearly fainted. 2 months' worth of receipts take up one big ring file and we have 4 years to clear. So there you, please do your own calculation as to how many ring files that will be. Haha.

Mr Ho told us that we'll move on to other work when we're done with the unclaimed surplus.

After my 1st day of work, I realized that there are actually people who doesn't want to collect their money. Some amounts to over 10k but still, no one bothered. So now, IPTO is taking the proactive approach by compiling the final amount and getting DBS to write out cheques to the pawnbrokers for them to cash out their unclaimed surplus.

This world is weird I tell you.

Anyway, very tired now. Tired from staring at all the figures and addresses. Going to Zzz now.

Tomorrow is another day of calculating and compiling. Hee.

Jack (or is it Jane?) of all trades,

but Master of none.
(trying to!)

This is my paradise, where I indulge my senses grandiloquently.

A collective effort to keep family & friends updated, and for random strangers to pop by.

I wanted to put a HUGE picture of myself in this space, but being the technologically challenged person that I am, I can't figure out the mojo of it.

So I guess I'll just have to make do with scattering loads of random self-shots all over the blog!
